Great Rental
Date of Stay: April 6-13, 2019

What a great house and location!! The house was exactly as shown in all the photos. It was very clean and all of the furnishings were very comfortable. There are lots of chairs outside to sit on and just watch the waves. We sat out there first thing every morning having our breakfast, and then other times throughout the day. There were 4 high wood chairs that provided a great vantage point. You can see for miles....

We had one snafu when we arrived with the bed linens because the website had indicated there was 1 king and 2 Queens, along with the bunk beds. There are actually 2 Kings. Sweet Dreams Linens quickly came and brought a set of King sheets and the website has been updated. They are extremely easy to deal with and very nice.

We only had breakfast at the house and night time snacks, but there were plenty of pots, pans, glasses, utensils etc that you will need to cook a full meal. And like the rest of the house, everything was quite clean. As this is a rental, if you plan on cooking a lot, it would be best to check to see what condiments are there before you start cooking.

John is very easy to get along with and was so very helpful before we arrived as well as once we did. He is very attentive to anything you would need. He even called to be sure we had water one day because one of his other rentals did not. Kudos John!!

The beds were very comfortable, water pressure was great in all the bathrooms and again, everything was very clean. The only, VERY small thing I can note is that the tracks for the screen doors have quite a bit of sand etc and were a bit hard to open/close-especially the upstairs bedroom. Once I got it closed, I left it that way which was great because listening to the waves at night is so soothing. Being at the beach, and with the winds, I would imagine that would be a constant "problem" with sand and dirt coming up from the beach.

I would also like to note that if you have any type of disability as I do, the main living area is on the 3rd floor, so there are quite a few stairs to climb. To get from the house to the beach via the wooden walk way - there are 55 steps each way. Just something to be aware of. The walk way is great and it does reach right down to the sand - nice job John 🙂 There is a spigot to rinse your feet on the landing near the house. There were chairs for the beach and a beach umbrella and some boogie boards located in the storage area inside the house. We didn't use the grill or the outside shower, both looked to be quite clean and ready for use. The washer and dryer worked perfectly.

Since the season had not yet started, the beach was pretty quiet. Except when the Marines were flying over on their maneuvers - made for some great, and very close, sightings of Super Stallion Helicopters, transport planes and one fighter jet that literally did a fly-over.

There are lots of places to eat within walking distance, but again, the season had not yet started so many of them were closed or had very limited hours. In season, you'll have more than enough places to choose from.

I would return to this house in a heartbeat. I could literally sit on one of the chairs on the top deck for hours and just stare at the ocean-pure bliss! You will love this house, I am sure of it.

Thank you so much for the detailed review. We will address those pesky sandy tracks on the sliders. There has been two king suites since I have owned the home, not sure who had the errant information. Anyway thanks for the thoughtful and informative critique.

Thanksgiving get away
Date of Stay: 11/17 thru 11/24/2018

Never disappointed with John’s vacation property. This was the second time to rent from John as we stayed the first time at Comes a Time and this time at Sandpiper Landing. Sandpiper is well furnished with all the dishes and cooking utensils you could ever need. It is decorated beautifully. The location is absolutely fantastic. You can walk to restaurants and shops that are nearby and the pier is just down the beach. We love renting from John as he is very accommodating. The only reason we won’t be staying at one of his homes is if someone beat us to it and rented it before us. Highly recommend.

I’m glad we were able to get all storm damage from Florence mitigated in time for your stay. Thank you very much for the thoughtful review.

Very nice property conveniently located.
Date of Stay: June 1 2018

This property was very nice and conveniently located to town. We were able to walk to many restaurants and shops and to the pier. Nice neighborhood. Very pet friendly and we appreciated that since we brought along our dog. The owner has thought of everything and there were many extras in the home. Would recommend and stay again.

Thank you so much for the wonderful review. Please let me know what it would take to earn that last star. Perhaps the project I am working on this week of adding new stairs to the beach completing the walkway between the old section of steps connecting to the new section I added last year would do it? There will be handrail and decking reaching completely to the beach. This will be a welcome addition of some of my more senior guests to steady them the whole way! I plan to finish this weekend! (DONE see pictures on our facebook page!!)

Fabulous beachfront home with fantastic views
Date of Stay: 3/24/2018

Our families spent a week at this home and absolutely LOVED every minute of it! The home is so nice and clean. The pictures certainly don't do the justice! We loved everything about this home. The views were fantastic! We felt like we had our own tropical paradise for a week. Having a washer and dryer were such a bonus.

The beds were all very comfortable and all bedrooms were a nice size and all had deck access and ocean views. And the icing on the cake is the owner, John, who was fantastic to work with and he answered all of my questions promptly.

In summary, this is a WONDERFUL and WELL-THOUGHT-OUT rental in a delightful city that I would definitely recommend to others. I’m already dreaming of our next trip back! Thanks so much for your hospitality and we hope to visit your beautiful home again someday!!!

Wow, I'm speechless! And that's not easy. THANK YOU!

Perfect location!
Date of Stay: Mar 8 2018

Right on the beach. Lots of room and very comfortable.

4 stars is a great review but we strive for five. If there is ANYTHING we can do better we are all ears. Maybe the new stairs to the beach I built in June 2018 would have tipped the scale to 5 but thanks for the review!!

Had a happy time renewing our vows for our 50th Wedding Anniversary with the family
Date of Stay: Dec 27 2017

The house was as good as advertised. My wife and I renewed our vows on our 50th Wedding Anniversary with the family. The weather was colder than we hoped, but all had a great time.

Congratulations again on the renewal, quite a milestone. We have actually had young couples married in comes a time. What a great memory you both will have. Please come again!

Dolphins, great location
Date of Stay: Nov 2017

Lots of bonuses- walkable to the pier, shops, grocery store. Dolphins easy to see from deck several times a day. Comfortable and easy rental process. Only Downside was that the section of hand rail on steepest part of stairs that descend down the dune to the beach was missing. This made it hard when trying to get a toddler and beach gear down the stairs with nothing to grab hold of. It’s about a five foot section with about 8 stairs. Also some family members had knee replacement and were elderly and didn’t feel comfortable not having a hand rail. Bummer bc they only went down to the beach once all week. I wish the photos had shown this. Other decks nearby had railings the entire length of the walkway.

Well it had to happen eventually, This is our first (and hopefully last) less than perfect review. Actually, you pointed out something I have already planned to rectify. The stairs and railings have been in place for 16 years and the dune has changed shape as many times. We just added an extra set of stairs clear to the surf and the last part of the upgrade was to improve the railings and stairs on the dune. Rest assured we will have this addressed very shortly. (DONE!! last week of June 2017 stairs and railings now reach the entire dune!!!) Thank you very much for the constructive feedback! Last week we put in a new dishwasher and this week I am replacing the bunk beds with new sturdier wood frame beds and upgraded memory foam mattresses.. We are constantly making improvements!!

Pelican’s Landing

250K Renovation, Unparalleled views – Oceanfront home. 6 Bedrooms 3 Baths, sleeps 13. Any closer to the water and you’ll need a boat!

Click here for a slideshow

Pelican Landing – Over 2200 Sq/Ft. We just doubled the square footage upstairs!. The House has roomy decks that span the front of both levels of this vacation spot, with a picnic table in place for alfresco dining at sunrise and sunset on the ocean front deck, and any time in between. A two-leveled boardwalk leading to the beach has a built-in bench for relaxing a little closer to the sandy strand, and there’s an outdoor shower for rinsing that sand off your tootsies.

Inside Pelican Landing, living quarters and two bedrooms a King and Queen, occupy the first level, with three oceanfront King bedrooms and a kids bunk room on the top level.

Living/dining area: The living area offers two new sofas and a rattan chair. Cuddle up with matching pillows tossed on each sofa and enjoy the amazing view, or have a movie night with the wall mounted 65″ flat screen UHDTV. Tile floors lead to the sliding glass door to the deck add to the relaxed feel of this room. Seascape prints complete the homey décor.

The oceanfront deck offers two picnic tables perfect for morning coffee or evening dolphin watching.

Dining Area: From the weathered wood top dining room table, you’ll always have an ocean view, either from the triple window on the front of the house or the double window on the side. Eight white chairs with white curved spindle backs offer plenty of seating under a elegant shell chandelier. Should you need more, there are five white bar stools at the generously proportioned bar between the dining area and kitchen.

Kitchen: This U-shaped kitchen has all the cabinet and counter space you could possibly need for preparing anything from a yummy shrimp boil to a complex five-course gourmet dinner. New stainless steel appliances, ocean blue walls, black counter-tops and weathered white cabinets make the kitchen feel like a true beach vacation – no nautical detail has been over looked. Open the exterior door between the dining area and kitchen, by the end of bar, and step out onto a walkway that leads to both the front deck and the rear parking area, making for convenient trips to the car for provisions.

Bedroom One (first level): Has a king-sized bed. The adjoining bath, which also opens onto the hall. There is a linen closet with four shelves to provide plenty of space for all those beach towels.

Bedroom Two (first level): A relaxing queen-sized bed here, set before a pair of windows that let the Topsail Island sun shine in. There’s a shell-filled lamp on the night table, and new tile flooring.

King Bedroom 3, 4 and 5 (top level): Step through the sliding glass doors of this oceanfront room onto a deck that spans the upper level and offers awesome views of Topsail Island’s sand and sea.

Bedroom 6 has a double and twin bunk bed for the kids. ALL (6) bedrooms have 55″ UHDTVs with Google Cast capability as well as HD Cable

Pet Friendly! We are offering $50 off or regular $200 per pet fee this year!

If your preferred week is already booked, please check out my other beachfront properties Sandpiper Landing a 4 bedroom 3 bathroom beachfront home 1 mile south and my newest addition, “Comes A Time”, Sandpiper’s identical sister house just two doors away.

Incredible beach front property for 13 people!!
Date of Stay: June 15 2018

We had an absolutely incredible time at Pelican Landing. I’m 32 years old, married with a 6, 3, and 1 year old. With us were three of my siblings, my brother in law, my mom and her husband, my grandma, and my great aunt. We all took turns cooking dinner every night; the kitchen was stocked with just about everything you would need to prep most meals. At 2,200 sq ft, it was plenty spacious for all of us to come together whether to eat dinner in the dining room or play games in the living room. Hands down the best part is the massive deck that looks over the ocean. We spent a majority of our time just relaxing on this porch. There was seating for everyone and the constant breeze that comes through made it a great place to be when trying to hide from the heat. We would absolutely visit here again. I searched close to ten hours for beach front property that would accommodate 13 people, and this is one of the best properties - if not THE best property. This was also our first time visiting Surf City, NC - BEAUTIFUL BEACH. It wasn’t crowded, the sand was soft, and the water was so much bluer than we had anticipated (stationed in Hawaii and Destin has left us with big expectations for the beach). If you’re still looking for somewhere to book, stop looking. You’ll love this property, the proximity to the water, the view it offers, and the beach it sits on. I guarantee it! Thank you, John, for allowing us to make so many memories that week - it was awesome!

We aim to please!! You can't beat Pelican's Landing for comfort, convenience and amenities. Come back any time. We at surfcitybeachhomes offer discounts to repeat guests!!.

Great house and great location
Date of Stay: May 18, 2018

Wonderful view with two fabulous decks; one covered, one in the sun. Had all the amenities needed. Clean, spacious, convenient. Almost literally in the water upon leaving deck. Would definitely stay there again.

Thanks for the great review. We try hard and I think it shows. We understand what your vacation means to you and want nothing but perfection in your mind when you think of us

Couldn’t have been better!!
Date of Stay: Jun 8, 2018

We had a great week at Pelicans Landing, and will most likely be back! From the initial contact with John until our last day he was very helpful, and answered all of our questions within a very reasonable time frame. The house exceeded our expectations, as well as the beaches. The weather was fantastic for mid June. We enjoyed finding shark teeth on the shore, and we even witnessed 16 sea turtles being released back in to the ocean. We would highly recommend this property to anyone looking for some relaxing beach time.

Couldn't have been better" I'll take that challenge!! Such a lovely review but we will try to make each year better than the last. We have got the house pretty well dialed in but we pledge to strive to continually improve our homes.
